For unframed two-dimensional artworks, one or two layers of bubble wrapping and/or strong builders plastic are required to provide sufficient safeguarding from dirt or scratching during handling and transit. The wrapping should be firmly taped as these artworks are often moved within the truck. Loose wrapping runs the risk of becoming snagged and can come off.
Framed artworks require cornering.
Cardboard corners underneath the bubble wrap or plastic, not on top as they will also snag and become dislodged. If you do not want the cardboard corners contacting the framed or artwork either tape them on very firmly or put another layer over the top. Corners are a requirement to protect art frames. Many artwork frames are quite brittle, and easy to damage.
With three-dimensional artworks like sculptures or ceramics these items need to be boxed and packed so that they do not move within the box so that they do not contact the side of the box or crate and for quoting purposes we need the three dimensions of the box or crate and the approximate weight.
Unwrapped works can damage other works. Please check that there are no sharp hanging wires or exposed hanging ring protruding from the back of the artwork that you are sending.
